Best Sustainable & Slow-Fashion Brands from Türkiye (And What Makes Them Different)
Türkiye has a long textile history, and in the last decade a small but growing number of brands have built businesses specifically around slow, sustainable, and craft-based production rather than volume manufacturing. Here are a few worth knowing, alongside what we do at LIVANCI.
One Square Meter
A slow-fashion label built around timeless, seasonless design and a made-to-order model — pieces are produced only once ordered, which avoids the overproduction that drives most fast-fashion waste.
Mah-Roc
Designer Roksan Sarfati's zero-waste label, which works by transforming discarded and leftover fabric into new pieces — a different route to sustainability than ours, focused on waste reduction rather than raw material sourcing.
LIVANCI
Our approach starts earlier in the process — with the fabric itself. Şile Cloth is handwoven, naturally starched, sea-washed, and sand-dried in Şile on Türkiye's Black Sea coast, largely by women artisans continuing a nearly 200-year-old regional tradition. We produce in limited runs rather than continuously, through what we call the Root Method.
What actually separates “slow” from the mainstream
The specifics differ — made-to-order, zero-waste cutting, traditional hand-production — but the shared thread across brands like these is deliberate smallness: producing less, more carefully, with a visible connection between the maker and the material. That's a genuinely different model from scaling a factory line as fast as demand allows, and it's worth supporting on its own terms, whichever specific approach you're drawn to.
